Grow a Mustache and Grow your career!

This post is aimed at Men for growing a mustache; however the core idea of the team work will work for women as well.

Earlier in my career as a commission sales rep I spent long hours on the road; most of the time I was by myself. The idea of being a part of a team was just that; an idea. Today I am working on a National Account at the head office level and the concept of team is alive and well. In fact being a positive team member is crucial to our team's success.

Understand clearly; anyone wanting to take their career to the next level needs to participate fully in team activities at work.

Teams can take on many different shapes; a charitable committee, sports team, project team, fundraising team, mentor program, all relate to teams.

Movember is a fundraising movement aimed at raising money and awareness for men's health. Many companies are encouraging support of such fundraising efforts.

The key idea is to participate fully in any of your team and/or companies fundraising efforts.

You can use these team activities to demonstrate your enthusiasm and passion for being a productive member of your team. Rest assured your company leaders are paying attention. You don't have to be the best fundraiser in the world; or a skilled athlete, to benefit from the team environment. Be willing to participate fully is all that is needed.

The cynic in all of us might say; "what's in it for me?" Perhaps the answer is "nothing" or maybe the answer is "this is a great chance to show you have the passion that can effect positive change." I will let you decide the right answer. Remember being a change agent is what companies are looking for. The ability to influence people, form productive teams, and commit 100% are at the heart of company’s success.

The next time you have a chance to be a part of a team or fundraising campaign at work I hope you will be motivated to jump in and commit 100%. I did and my career has benefitted greatly and I know yours will too.
